ILS Project Workflow

ILS has continuously-evolving protocols, for allowing for the every-more efficient execution of projects.

We do not provide standard systems, but rather custom-design each system for our clients specifications. This requires a close and intense exchange of ideas on a regular basis in order to enable us to provide our clients with the system best suited for their application.

Various protocols are in place allowing for the protection of our clients intellectual property as well as standards for insuring that our system designs are intrinsically safe.

ILS employs a number of state-of-the-art web-tools, which allow for us to have regular internet-conferences with our clients and exchange large amounts of information rapidly and reliably.

This process is described in greater detail below.

Establishment of Intellectual Property

Prior to commencing any project, ILS typically enters a non-disclosure agreement with each client. Any areas of intellectual-property, which the client has to reveal are identified and specified as being the property of the client. A consequential and thorough approach to identifying and securing client and ILS-intellectual property is a step often underestimated by custom-system suppliers. This is something taken very seriously by ILS and has helped to gain the trust of our clients, who have rewarded this trust with repeat business.

Pre-Engineering

The pre-engineering phase is the phase, where ILS engineers work closely with clients to define the technical specifications for the system in question. This includes an intense and efficient exchange of ideas and adherence to pre-agreed upon timelines. Project Management is one of our specialties and is essential to realizing the efficient and timely delivery of the systems in question.

  • Establishment of project-timeline and assignment of responsibilities
  • P&ID-Piping and instrumentation diagram, which includes all of the components and technical information necessary for the system construction. (Include example P&ID)
  • Mass & Heat Balances and any other necessary engineering calculations

Safety Assessment

ILS takes safety extremely seriously. We continue to improve our protocols for allowing for rapid identification of potential sources of danger and to determine the most appropriate ways to eliminate or minimize these dangers.

We employ European-standard norms to allow us to CE-certify our systems. Both the EN1050 and Hazop analysis are performed together with our clients’ safety experts to insure complete compliance of our systems, with our clients internal-safety standards.

  • EN1050
  • Hazop

Detailed Engineering

The detailed-engineering stage includes the drawing of the entire system in 3D CAD using Solidworks. ILS provides its clients with edrawings, which is a robust, shareware tool, which allows our clients to view the systems we design for them in 3D

Build

During the construction-phase, regular updates are provided to our clients, indicating the actual status of the project in question. One of ILS’ key strengths is a willingness to implement changes even at this late stage in the construction process. Novel R&D instruments are, by nature, complex and many essential components or aspects are often only realized at a late point in time. It is this close and trusting collaboration with our clients, which ILS endeavors to build long-term relationships upon.

Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)

In the FAT-stage (Factory Acceptance Test) the client sends qualified representatives to our assembly-specialists at the Premex Reactor AG in Lengnau Switzerland.

Prior to the visit, ILS works together with its clients to generate a well-defined factory-acceptance test. These establish the criteria, which the system will have to fufill prior to shipping to the client.

Commissioning Phase

During the commissioning phase, ILS installs the system on-site at the client and establishes all necessary fluidic and electrical connections.

Typically a 1 to 2-week commissioning phase is established, during which the functionality of the delivered system is completely tested and the final bugs worked out.

Simple systems have shorter commissioning phases and more complex systems can sometimes require 1-2 month commissioning phases.

Site Acceptance Test (SAT)

The SAT (Site Acceptance Test) is performed on-site at our client’s location. During the SAT, the system is tested under realistic conditions with real feeds.

A well-defined SAT protocol is agreed upon prior to the SAT-execution, which insures a rapid and safe execution of the SAT.

Service guarantee and support

ILS has a number of highly-specialized and qualified service partners, which provide service abroad. ILS often provides direct support of its systems if necessary.
